Cressi Travelight
8.4
  • Designed for the travel. Thanks to its soft backrest and to the ultra-light structure it can be fold and pack to easily put in even a carry-on bag.
  • Air bladder design enhances the lateral distribution of air for a natural balance of weight.
  • Features the Cressi Inflator Flat, with an intuitive and anatomic handle. With the double air filtration system, it prevents the infiltration of particulates.

The Cressi Travelight is the perfect BCD for travel divers who enjoy the sense of freedom provided by minimal jackets.

This thing weighs just 5.5 lbs and folds down to a compact 14″ x 9.8″ x 5.9″. There is an integrated strap that wraps around the BCD to keep it neatly folded in your luggage and even doubles as a crotch strap during dives. Cressi even provided its own carry case that the BCD packs neatly into.

Thanks to its anatomical cut and ultra-light design, the Travelight is exceptionally hydrodynamic. The design of the air bladder enhances lateral air distribution. This promotes a balanced and stable trim underwater. The waist strap is independent of the air bladder and doesn’t inflate. This gives you a comfortable fit without constriction.

Cressi uses its Flat Lock Aid integrated weight system on this jacket. The system secures weights with a spring-loaded mechanism for easy insertion and quick-release functionality. There are Two additional rear weight pockets if you need to fine-tune your trim.

If you thought that was it, you’d be wrong. There are also two spacious, expanding zippered pockets that give you ample storage for accessories, and six pre-bent, lightweight alloy D-rings for multiple attachment points for additional gear.

The SCUBAPRO Hyrdos Pro a true breakthrough in dive comfort and convenience. The BCD uses moldable Monprene, adjustable fit and multi-attachment points combine to make this the most customizable and comfortable BCD ever.

The patented injection molded Monprene Gel Harness is extremely resistant to UV, chemicals and abrasion. The fabric-free harness uses no Velcro or zippers. It dries practically instantly and is ideal for travel due to less water retention and lower post-dive weight.

SCUBAPRO uses its “BCD-4-Life” modular design to give you the option of adding or removing weight systems, straps and pouches. This gives you Extended lifespan due to simplified repairs. Virtually every component, including buckles, can be replaced without stitching.

One of the coolest features is its smart-pack design. The BCD has folding shoulder and waist straps, creating an unbelievably compact package for easy transport and storage. It also comes with an additional Travel Harness and a Hydros Pro Carry-on Back Pack for storage and travel.

Its available in both men’s and women’s sizing with either the Balanced Power Inflator or AIR2 alternate air source.

Editor’s Note: This is the BCD that I currently use for both professional missions and recreational diving. It’s also the BCD I convinced my department to order for the whole dive team. The Monprene material is a game-changer. It’s super impressive how fast this thing dries. I also really enjoy the minimalist design.

The Mares Bolt SLS offers incomparable comfort and stability.

Every size is treated equal in this BCD. The lift capacity of 41 lbs is the same across the board. No matter if you’re an XS or an XL.

The SLS weight system varies slightly, though. Sizes XS to M will have 9 + 9 lbs. Sizes L and XL will have 13 + 13 lbs. There is a specific visual confirmation when the weights are correctly inserted into the SLS system and there are even trim pouches for aditional adjustments.

This one-piece backpack can be used with both single or twin tanks. You’ll find an integrated whistle in the buckle and a D ring on the right shoulder that’s inclined to 45° for attaching consoles.

Zeagle Express Tech Deluxe

Zeagle Express Tech Deluxe
4.5
  • Deluxe harness including articulated shoulders and Airloc buckles
  • Sternum strap
  • Compact 24lb lift capacity retractable bladder assembly standard, accepts most optional bladders
  • Two sets of center plate grommets allow for attaching twin cylinders
  • Stainless steel grommets around the edge of the plate allow for multiple attachment points for accessories

If traveling light and not being weighed down by your dive kit is a must, look no further than the Zeagle Express Tech Deluxe. This thing offers you true customization and versatility.

You can choose to equip the BCD with either no weight system or the Zip Touch weight system, which can carry up to 20 lbs of dumpable weights. The integrated weights use a ripcord system for easy, one-handed operation. The benefit of a ripcord is that ‘s reusable. If you dump integrated weight pockets, they’ll be at the bottom of the ocean.

For divers that prioritize comfort, the Deluxe includes the Zeagle Express Tech Pad Kit. This kit includes shoulder pads and a soft, removable backpad, so you can really dial in the comfort with whatever amount of cushion you like.

If you think you need more lift, the Express Tech accepts most optional bladders. You can also set up the BCD for attaching twin cylinders.

Zeagle didn’t skimp on the small details. They’ve included five stainless steel D rings for you to attach just about anything. If that’s not enough, there are also stainless steel grommets all along the edge of the plate for any other accessories.

Editor’s Note: This is the BCD I started my dive journey with. It served me very well for many, many years. When I was first starting out, I was improperly over inflating the bladder to stay afloat at the surface. This made the BCD continuously push my face forward into the water. I thought it was an issue with the BCD and changed to jacket-style. Eventually, I learned that it was user error and that the BCD was phenomenal.

Oh and don’t forget about the rest of your gear. Here are also some of our recommendations to pair with these BCDs:

Why Are These BCDs Good For Travel?

Lightweight: The most crucial factor. These BCDs are made with lighter materials, reducing their overall weight and helping divers stay under strict airline weight limits.

Compact/Packable: Many of these BCDs can be rolled, folded, or disassembled into a compact size that fits easily into a carry-on or dive bag.

Fast Drying: BCDs made from non-water-absorbent materials like Monprene or laminated fabrics dry very quickly. This is a huge convenience on a trip, as you can pack your gear without worrying about mold, mildew, or a wet item adding weight to your bag.

Integrated Weights: Many travel BCDs include integrated weight systems. This eliminates the need for a separate weight belt, further streamlining your gear and making it easier to pack.
