Where the Seawing Supernova immediately separates itself from the competition is its effort-to-power ratio. Compared to other powerful fins like the Mares Avanti Quattro + (which gives you great power but demands high physical effort), the Supernova’s Pivot Control Technology and flexible central panel counter-pivot automatically to match your kicking strength.

When cruising gently, the blade maintains a mild angle for effortless flutter kicking. When digging in against a strong current, the panel flexes to an aggressive angle of attack, giving you instant speed without causing thigh cramping or ankle strain. Compared to compact tech fins like the Hollis F-2, the Supernova provides significantly more raw thrust while remaining agile enough for precise micro-adjustments when checking out reefs or maneuvering near delicate cavern walls.

It performs reliably across flutter kicks, dolphin kicks, and frog kicks, making it a true all-around performer regardless of your preferred propulsion style.



Modular Socket-Lock System & Travel Convenience

The defining feature of the Supernova is SCUBAPRO’s Socket-Lock Connecting System, which lets the blade and foot pocket be completely disassembled using the included multi-tool.

For traveling divers, this feature is game-changing. Unlocking the blade allows the entire setup to lay flat inside standard carry-on luggage or gear bags without awkward angles or bent tips.

Even better, this modular design allows you to swap out the standard open-heel pocket for SCUBAPRO’s optional full-foot conversion kit when heading to warm-water destinations.

Pay close attention to the lock plates when assembling or disassembling. The locking pieces are side-specific (Left & Right) and orientation-specific (Top & Bottom). Forcing a locking plate in upside down can snap the alignment pins. Fortunately, SCUBAPRO includes extra lock plates in the box, and even with a chipped pin, the connection remains rock-solid underwater.

I was careless and accidentally snapped one of the pins my first time disassembling and reassembling the fins. Fortunately, it hasn’t mattered at all. I’ve been using this “broken” locking plate since day one and the fins have never had an issue.

Foot Pocket Fit & Strap System Setup

SCUBAPRO offers both open-heel and full-foot pocket options. The open-heel pocket is the clear winner for most divers, giving you a secure, comfortable fit with both wetsuit boots and drysuit boots. While the optional full-foot pocket fits adequately, it rans slightly roomy for me and would have benefitted from a neoprene sock for a more secure fit.


Out of the box, the marine-grade bungee strap comes set to a default position. The fin pocket actually features three distinct mounting positions for the strap anchor. I unknowingly left it on the default setting. This required an unusual amount of effort to get the strap over my boots. Eventually, one of the pull loops ended up breaking.

Moving the strap anchor to the correct size position would likely have resolved the tension issue completely. Since I had to buy new straps anyways, I went with spring straps instead. They’re way easier to put on and take off now.

Durability & Field Resilience

Over 50+ dives, including brutal shore entries, rocky bottom crawling, and public safety mission work, the Monoprene material has proven virtually indestructible. The central flexible hinge joints show zero signs of weakening, stretching, or structural stress over time. While the outer surface will accumulate standard cosmetic scuffs from lake bottoms and boat decks, the functional integrity of the fin remains 100% intact.

My only issue with this fin (the broken pull loop) can be attributed to my bone-headed user error. I thought about going with an OEM replacement for the strap, but at what it cost, I decided it was better to just upgrade to spring straps.
