The GoldFin 2mm Wetsuit Top & Shorts combo is an outstanding budget-friendly solution for surface watersports, jet skiing, casual swimming, and repetitive warm-water diving. Its biggest strength is wearability (it is comfortable enough to wear out of the water all day long without overheating or chafing). While it isn’t meant for prolonged exposure in chilly 70°F water, it is the perfect middle ground when full wetsuits are too cumbersome to carry or wear.

Thermal Performance
Where this combo absolutely crushed performance was during wind-heavy surface activities. While jet skiing off Catalina Island, the wind chill and spray left others in standard swimwear shivering with goosebumps, but the 2mm neoprene blocked the wind completely and kept core warmth locked in.
In terms of immersion, the initial water surge through the neck warmed up quickly. However, in ~70°F water (such as late afternoon swims at Descanso Beach or shaded underground rivers at Xplor) the 2mm thickness hits its limit after about 10 minutes of continuous immersion if you are cold-prone. While a 5mm suit would offer more submerged warmth, walking through adventure parks or town in a 5mm suit is practically impossible. For repeat warm-water boat dives (80°F+), where thermal fatigue sets in by dive two or three, this set is an absolute game-changer to throw on between sessions.
To be fair, I was at Descanso Beach as the sun was going down. Had the sun been beaming in the afternoon, I probably would have been much more comfortable.
Editor’s Note
Fit, Flex, and Sizing
Overall fit and comfort across the torso and hips are excellent, with zero skin chafing or restriction during swimming or walking. However, shorter divers (around 5’5″) should note the cuff length on the shorts. Because of the proportional cut, the leg cuffs land right at the bend of the knee (at least on me), which can feel slightly annoying when walking or kicking continuously.
The fix is simple: rolling the leg cuffs up an inch gets them cleanly out of the knee crease. Taller divers likely won’t encounter this issue, as the shorts will sit higher on the thigh.

Donning and doffing this set couldn’t be easier. Unlike full one-piece suits that require a wrestling match on the boat deck, the front zip top functions just like a casual light jacket, and the shorts pull on effortlessly.
Durability & Travel Considerations
Durability proved surprisingly tough. Over four days of zero-babying test conditions (sitting directly on rocky benches, leaning against rough dock edges, and hiking through cavernous park trails) the material showed no signs of fraying, tearing, or seam separation. On top of that, the two-piece setup packs flat and takes up virtually no luggage space compared to standard neoprene suits.

If you need flexible exposure protection for surface activities, jet skiing, snorkeling, or repetitive warm-water tropical dives where you don’t want to haul a full wetsuit, the GoldFin 2mm Wetsuit Top & Wetsuit Shorts set is an absolute staple. It bridges the gap between basic swimwear and heavy dive gear perfectly, offering great value and incredible convenience.
Also, I would have loved this thing to have pockets. Yes, I know it’s technically a wetsuit, but I wore it around town like it was casual attire and it would have been nice to have a spot to put my phone and wallet. Instead, I had to constantly dig into my dry bag to remove them every time I needed to pay for ice cream.
